Welcome to Week 5 of my “GNAR Quest.” If you remember from my Week 1 article, one of the foundational premises of a GNAR Quest (“Growing Old, Staying Rad”) is that we have limited time left on this planet to bring clarity to our pursuit of the possibilities that lie ahead. By using the science-based principles of Peak Performance Aging, we can realize those possibilities.
Acknowledging we have limited time can be crazy scary, even though intuitively we all know it is true. And with limited time comes the need for structure, discipline and “rules.” Rules help guide us in the direction of our goals to the achievement of our personal GNAR Quest.
Rule One: Always Follow the Rules. Always. Especially when emotions can impact your performance.
That’s easier said than done. I always have good intentions, but not always good execution. But I am getting better—because of Rule One.
Here are my “Rules to Live By” that I have developed for my quest, in no particular order of importance:
- Have the confidence and self-assurance to achieve my goals
- Practice emotional regulation (woo, tough one)
- Be courageous and curious
- Commit to Iron-clad priorities
- Think “Possibility and Potential”
To keep these top-of-mind, I have them written in my daily calendar and have shared them with my GNAR Country training partner for support and accountability.
If you decided to develop your own GNAR Quest, what would be your Rules to Live By?
