A 30 Second Refresh and Reset for the WIN
Hi everyone, Bobbie LaPorte here again with my weekly tip for your Best Next Move – where I help you have more agency in your work, acknowledge your capacity to act and see what you can do right now.
This week I wanted to lighten things up a bit and share with you a great tip I learned this week from Mazen Baisa. Mazen is a doctor who facilitates a mastermind group I am in. Each meeting he leads a brief segment called “Making a Healthy Deposit”, and this week he shared with us a tip called WIN (W – I – N). Some of you may be familiar with this but I was not.
W-I-N: Widening your posture; Inhale; Normalizing your eyesight.
It’s simple, practical – and easy to remember, and can be very effective for those of us who are hunched over our laptops on Zoom all day long.
So here’s how it goes – you can do it along with me if you like.
W – widening your posture. Sit up straight; ground your sitz bones into your chair and lift your crown – as if you are the connection between earth and sky. Square your shoulders back. Feel better?
I – inhale. Take a breath in thru your nose, and then exhale out thru your mouth.
I often use the 5-5-5 technique: breath in thru your nose for 5 seconds – hold for 5 seconds – and exhale thru the mouth for 5 seconds. This actually resets the sympathetic nervous system- which is the source of most of the stress we feel each day.
N – normalizing your eyesight. Close your eyes for 15-20 seconds….giving them a rest from being at work all day.
That’s it: WIN. It’s a simple way to hit the refresh and reset button during the day – giving your system a break.
That’s my tip. I hope you’ll try this. I’ll see you next Monday; have a great week and remember – to go for the WIN!
Take care.
