Video Transcript: Let’s Get Growing — The Definition of Risk
Hi everyone, Bobbie LaPorte here again with this week’s “Let’s Get Growing” tip.
In these weekly video tips, I’ll share ideas to help you take charge of your plans as you head into the Q4 of this year and then 2021.
This week I’d like to share with you a new definition of “risk” that will help you accelerate your progress on key objectives.
One of the major shifts that leaders need to do to make NOW is to learn how to evaluate risk and make no-regret decisions in a highly accelerated timeframe.
The higher we move in the organization and the more responsibility we take on, the more we are asked to deal with ambiguity and risk. The difference now is that we can no longer make minimizing risk the primary focus of our approach to decision-making. In a world that is uncertain and constantly shifting; where change is happening at an unprecedented accelerated pace; where no one knows how to plan for tomorrow – evaluating risk now must take a back seat to taking in-the-moment actions based on confidence and instinct.
The answers, if there are any, are not clear and straightforward as they may have been earlier in your career. We need to accept the reality that increased risk-taking and making mistakes are more acceptable now. Changing course, if necessary, is better waiting, becoming paralyzed, fearing the ripple effects of what could go wrong.
This is what making no-regret decisions is all about – that every decision is a good one – until it is not.
That’s my “Get Growing” tip of the week. I’ll see you next Monday… remember to see this time as an enabler, not a liability or a time to “pause”, waiting for certainty to return.
Take care of yourself!
